About Well Aware

Well Aware is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization formed in 2006 to provide life-saving water for those who have none. We are a grassroots group reaching out globally for a solution to the suffering caused by water deprivation in parts of East Africa.

We successfully completed three water systems in our first year, and have since grown to accommodate the construction of a greater number of water systems per year, more thorough oversight and due diligence, and more sustainable and realistic solutions on a case-by-case basis for each community in which we work.

Every community in which we are priviledged to work has sumbmitted a project propsal to Well Aware, which our Board of Directors has approved.  While we are unable to service every community that seeks our assistance, we also work with individuals to improve and/or build upon their proposals for our approval.  We have found that it is necessary to know that each community is thoroughly invested in helping us help them, to ensure a self-sustaining cmmunity when our initial work there is complete.

All of our public donations go directly toward out water projects, and the Kenyan community members work toward our fundraising efforts, as well, by crafting their indigenous jewelry for fundraising sales, in addition to contributing to the construction, funding and upkeep of these projects.

Our Solution and Scope

The water systems that Well Aware is now constructing will service tens of thousands of people for their lifetimes. After fully assessing each area, we determine the most practical and lasting solution, which will be a water well (borehole or hand-dug), rain water collection sytem or pipeline from a nearby natural spring.

We are well aware that our responsibility to the communities in which we work goes far beyond the driilling of a hole.  Over 60% of existing water wells in Kenya are currently not working due to NGO neglect.  Our project planning and budgeting includes life-time technical support, community oversight and development consultation.  In the event that Well Aware is to ever dissolve, funds for these purposes will be placed in trust for each community.

Beginning in the autumn of 2010, we are focussing on more impactful projects in conjunction with representatives of other local nonprofits also working in Kenya with expertise in additional community needs, so that we can make real and lasting changes in the areas we work.  After we have provided water, we will implement training and aid in education, health and sanitation, community development and job training and placement.

Well Aware's holistic approach to water well provisions in Kenya.

Well Aware does not discriminate on the basis of religious, tribal, political or any other affiliation.  We are a humanitarian organization serving those who needs us.
